Squirrel’s Lunch

2025

60×60 cm

oil on canvas

This squirrel lives in Sarzhyn Yar, a beloved park in Kharkiv. The squirrels there have grown accustomed to people and happily accept nuts from visitors, while locals never forget to bring treats for the many animals that call the park home.

The squirrels of Sarzhyn Yar are agile and curious. They move swiftly through the branches, carefully observe passersby, and quickly recognize those who come bearing treats. Unafraid of human presence, they often approach closely and gently take nuts from outstretched hands.

This artwork is part of the Animals of Kharkiv Region series, which celebrates the wildlife living alongside us and reminds us of our connection to the natural world. It highlights the importance of caring for and protecting even the smallest of our neighbors, especially during challenging times. Through this squirrel’s everyday moment, the painting reflects themes of trust, coexistence, and the quiet resilience of nature.
